The UK District Energy Association (ukDEA) is launched

The ukDEADEKB is proud to announce that we will be the administrator and responsible for the day to day running of the newly launched UK District Energy Association, the ukDEA.

Conservative shadow energy minister Greg Barker MP has officially launched the UK District Energy Association which aims to promote District Energy as a means to deliver significant carbon savings and establish a direct link between the Government and the industry's small market base. Greg Barker said "As a long time advocate of District Energy, I look forward to working with them (ukDEA) and their members to refine our approach and I hope, potentially, to work with them in Government". David Kidney MP, Under Secretary of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change, who said with regards to District Energy Schemes; “I’m also happy to see the launch of the ukDEA which can help promote these kinds of schemes”.

The ukDEA will be a not-for profit association of companies and public sector organisations, initially including representatives of the six main district energy schemes in the UK today: Birmingham City Council, Enviroenergy Limited, Veolia Environmental Services Limited, Southampton City Council, Thameswey Limited and Utilicom Limited. Working closely with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the ukDEA aims to improve consultation and communication between existing and potential scheme developers, operators, partners and users.

Ysgol y Traeth, Barmouth: Earlier this year the school installed its own wind turbine and solar panels to allow it to produce some of its own electricity as well as sell some back to the national grid. The school has already achieved the Silver Award in the global Eco-Schools programme which is an initiative that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. The Eco-Schools programme plays a vital role in educating young people to make a major contribution to Assembly Government priorities on tackling climate change, global citizenship, recycling and reducing waste. http://www.traeth.gwynedd.sch.uk/

What is Decentralised Energy ?

Decentralised EnergyThe developed world's electricity is generated by an outdated, technologically obsolete, centralised system which wastes around 65% of the energy used to fuel it.

If this can be replaced with systems which make use of the heat wasted by producing electricity, in tandem with locally generated renewable energy, which is better for the climate, more secure and gives better value for money - this is Decentralised Energy.  Read More .....
