Leicester City Council: The St. Andrews district heating system is one of the first CHP systems to use the PowerGen network for transmitting electricity to 14 other council buildings. In 1995 a 200 kW CHP unit came on line at St. Peters district heating system. All the electricity from the CHP sites is now transmitted via the EME network to council buildings in Leicester. In December 1996 a 600 kW CHP plant was launched, producing electricity at St. Matthews district heating site. http://www.leicester.gov.uk

Bristol City Council: Barton Hill is one of several community heating schemes managed by Bristol City Council that together supply heat to around 3,000 homes. The installation of a CHP unit, assisted by a £75,000 grant from the Residential CHP Programme has an expected primary energy saving of 5,550,000 kWh and and annual carbon dioxide saving of 2,500 tonnes. The installation of CHP plant was the most cost-effective solution for both tenants and the council. http://www.bristol.gov.uk

Southampton City Council: The Southampton District Energy Scheme was launched  in 1986 and has grown to serve many of the City Centre’s prestigious developments. Centrally combining the production of heat, electricity and chilling, the scheme is the largest of its type in the UK, and integrates various sources of energy generation which include; Good Quality Combined Heat and Power (CHP), and Geothermal Resources, delivering energy to end consumers without a “Green Premium” and 11,000 tonnes of CO2 emission reductions each year. http://www.southampton.gov.uk

City of Westminster: Westminster City Council is to become the first local authority in the UK to replace all its illuminated bollards with eco-friendly models in a drive to cut carbon emissions. The authority will replace up to 2,000 illuminated bollards in the heart of the capital with solar powered models from June 2008. The council’s latest green initiative will help reduce the authority's carbon footprint by 210 tonnes a year - enough to power an estimated 200 homes over the same period. http://www.westminster.gov.uk
