Northumberland County Council: Over 400 Council-owned buildings are powered by green energy. Power now comes from sources such as wind farms, hydroelectric stations, harnessing sewage gas and using biomass material saving saving of 12,000 tons of CO2 emissions a year. http://www.northumberland.gov.uk

Central East/East Midlands Region

Nottinghamshire County Council: A reputation in sustainable energy, built over the last 25 years, the first local authority to win the National Energy Award in 1984. Have advised the Local Government Association on energy matters for many years. We negotiated one of the largest local authority supply contracts for green and CHP electricity in the country. We achieved our plan target of a 25% CO2 reduction from NCC buildings, and have a PSA target to stretch this to 27% - the first PSA in the country to include a CO2 target. http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk

East of England Region

Bedfordshire County Council: The County Council has commissioned renewable energy schemes on its own land and buildings, for example solar panels at County Hall. In addition, around 60% of electricity used is now purchased on "green tariffs" i.e. generated by either renewable sources or combined heat & power. http://www.bedfordshire.gov.uk

South East Region

West Berkshire Council: 11.2kW solar photovoltaics system on the roof of its head office in Newbury, following installation and commissioning by micro-generation specialists Ardenham Energy. The 85 square metre installation was carried out following the award of a Low Carbon Building Programme Phase 2 grant. Comprising of 66 Sharp 170W polycrystalline solar panels, the array will generate around 10,000kWh of electricity a year. http://www.westberks.gov.uk
